Job Summary

A fast-growing technology company based in Ikeja, Lagos, is looking to hire a remote Accountant who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and well-versed in modern financial practices. While the position is remote, applicants must reside in Lagos due to potential in-person meetings, local compliance matters, and company logistics.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated finance professional with hands-on experience in managing day-to-day financial operations. From preparing financial reports to handling tax compliance, payroll, and bank reconciliations, this role is crucial in ensuring the company’s financial integrity and strategic growth.

As the team continues to expand across Nigeria, they are looking for a skilled Accountant who can support remote operations while keeping the financial engine running smoothly behind the scenes.

Responsibilities

Your day-to-day tasks as an Accountant will include:

Financial Records & Reporting

  • Prepare, maintain, and review accurate financial statements (e.g., income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement).

  • Monitor daily transactions, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with internal policies.

  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that summarize company performance and highlight areas for improvement.

Ledger Management

  • Oversee and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and properly categorized.

  • Maintain up-to-date accounts payable and receivable ledgers to support timely billing and collections.

Payroll Processing

  • Coordinate the timely and correct processing of staff monthly salaries.

  • Ensure payroll tax deductions such as PAYE, NSITF, and pension contributions are handled accurately and submitted within the deadline.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Handle company tax obligations including VAT, WHT (Withholding Tax), and PAYE remittances to the relevant authorities.

  • Maintain awareness of FIRS and LIRS regulations to ensure the company remains compliant.

Reconciliation & Monitoring

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, review bank charges, and resolve discrepancies in financial records.

  • Monitor cash flow to ensure the business maintains healthy liquidity and is able to meet short- and long-term obligations.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to prepare annual budgets, monitor variances, and offer recommendations for cost savings.

  • Support in financial planning by providing data-driven insights and cash flow forecasts.

Auditing

  • Conduct periodic internal audits to verify financial integrity.

  • Work with external auditors during the annual audit process, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.

Strategic Support

  • Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions across departments.

  • Offer recommendations for financial efficiency, tax minimization, and overall profitability.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

  • 3–7 years of accounting experience, preferably in the technology, SaaS, or digital services industry.

  • Prior experience in managing financial operations remotely is an advantage.

Certifications

  • Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent will be a strong advantage.

  • Ongoing commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) is preferred.

Technical Proficiency

  • Solid hands-on experience using accounting software such as:

    • QuickBooks

    • Sage

    • Zoho Books or equivalent tools.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, data analysis).

  • Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration tools like Google Workspace, Slack, and Trello is a plus.

Personal Qualities

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all work.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.

  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while working remotely.

  • Lagos residency (even though work is remote) is non-negotiable due to potential in-person financial obligations.
