Job Overview
We are hiring a Remote Blog Manager to oversee the daily publishing operations of our online news platform. This role involves supervising a team of writers and contributors, planning and editing content, optimizing SEO, and maintaining the quality and consistency of the blog. You’ll be responsible for setting editorial guidelines, curating timely content, and ensuring our voice resonates with African audiences globally.
As this is a remote position, applicants from anywhere within Africa are welcome to apply. However, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong familiarity with African socio-political landscapes, media consumption trends, and audience behavior.
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Strategy and Editorial Planning

Develop and implement a content calendar focused on African news, culture, innovation, politics, business, and entertainment.

Monitor trending news stories and coordinate rapid content creation around them.

Ensure a balance between evergreen content and timely, news-driven stories.
2. Team Management

Recruit, onboard, and manage freelance writers and guest contributors.

Assign blog topics and ensure timely delivery of drafts.

Provide feedback and support writers to improve content quality and accuracy.
3. Editing and Publishing

Edit and proofread all blog content before publishing to ensure high editorial standards.

Ensure all posts follow the platform’s tone, voice, and ethical guidelines.

Collaborate with the design team to add images, infographics, and media assets to blog posts.
4. SEO and Content Optimization

Conduct keyword research and integrate SEO best practices into all blog content.

Optimize existing content to boost performance and search engine rankings.

Track performance metrics using tools like Google Analytics and suggest improvements.
5. Audience Engagement and Feedback

Monitor blog comments, feedback, and reader responses.

Work with the social media team to promote blog content across platforms.

Identify topics that resonate with readers based on performance metrics and engagement.
6. Internal Collaboration

Liaise with the product team, marketing team, and editorial board to align blog strategy with overall brand goals.

Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to long-term strategic planning.
Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Digital Media, or a related field.

Minimum of 3 years experience managing a blog, preferably in a media or publishing environment.

Proven track record of managing a remote writing team.

Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., WordPress), SEO tools (e.g., SEMrush, Yoast), and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).

Deep understanding of African affairs and media.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote work environment.
Desirable (But Not Mandatory)

Experience working in a newsroom or digital publishing platform.

Knowledge of HTML and basic image editing tools like Canva or Photoshop.

Experience with monetizing blog content through ad placements, sponsorships, or affiliate marketing.

Multilingual fluency in French, Swahili, Hausa, or Arabic is a plus.
